Blackwork embroidery is a traditional technique which was very popular in the early Tudor & Elizabethan periods when it was used to decorate garments, bed linen and other household articles. It was worked in dark silk, coloured thread on white or cream linen fabrics, often decorated with a touch of gold or silver gilt thread. Today the term "Blackwork" is used to refer to the technique, rather than the colour combination.
Originally established in 1995 with a desire to provide needleworkers with quality Blackwork designs. Each Teresa Stephenson designed Blackwork kit is carefully packed and contains a chart, instructions, fabric, needle and yarn. |
